How Freshfields early-careers selection differs across London, Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai
The current evidence supports office- and programme-specific variation rather than one global Freshfields route. London, Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai/GCC now have programme-specific governed evidence at different depths; New York is not yet evidenced at comparable depth.
Current governed comparison
| Hub | Evidence state | Current governed answer | Signal IDs / scope |
|---|---|---|---|
| London | VERIFIED | Freshfields UK states candidates may apply directly to the Trainee Associate Programme without completing a vacation scheme and that many trainees join through the direct route. The London-Asia route also connects Hong Kong internship selection with London trainee selection. | SIG-143 · SIG-144 · SIG-168 |
| New York | NOT YET EVIDENCED | The current Atlas does not contain a comparable governed New York early-careers cell for this comparison. This is not a claim that Freshfields lacks US recruiting. | ATLAS: NOT YET EVIDENCED |
| Hong Kong | VERIFIED | Hong Kong Training Contract selection moves from application materials to online assessments and then an interview with a senior lawyer and the People team. The London-Asia Trainee Associate route begins with the Hong Kong Summer Internship and can include a final week in London, visa dependent. | SIG-143 · SIG-144 · SIG-166 · SIG-167 |
| Singapore | VERIFIED | Freshfields publishes a current Singapore IAG Summer Internship 2027 window from 1 October to 31 December 2026. The programme lasts three to six weeks and applicants submit an online form with CV, cover letter, a three-to-ten-page legal writing sample and academic transcripts. | SIG-197 · SIG-198 |
| Dubai / GCC | VERIFIED | Freshfields states that MENA and UK applications are reviewed independently. Its current Dubai internship publishes application review followed by interview for shortlisted candidates, while the 2027 Emirati Internship publishes application, interview and offer stages for eligible UAE nationals in Abu Dhabi or Dubai. | SIG-145 · SIG-199 · SIG-200 · SIG-201 · SIG-202 |
A useful London pathway correction
Freshfields UK states that a vacation scheme is not required to apply for its Trainee Associate Programme and that many trainees join through the direct route. That is why Who Gets In? does not publish a market-wide rule that vacation schemes are the universal gateway to training contracts.
What this does not show
The dossier does not establish hidden screening criteria, acceptance odds, university weighting or one firmwide global sequence. Singapore now has a current IAG internship programme cell and Dubai/GCC has current internship-stage evidence. These are different programme types and must not be collapsed into one global sequence.
