Spring Week Application Timeline 2026-2027: The Complete Calendar

Spring week applications open earlier than most candidates realise. This is the complete calendar for the 2026-2027 cycle with documented deadlines, preparation windows, and the ECS framework timeline.

The Calendar That Determines Everything

Spring week applications for the 2026-2027 cycle open between September and January, but most close before Christmas. A candidate who starts preparing in January is already late for the firms that matter most. This calendar maps every major spring week and insight programme deadline in London, with the ECS preparation timeline overlaid.

The documented ECS outcomes at Morgan Stanley Spring Week (Karam Kahlon, University of Exeter), HSBC Spring Week, and Blackstone Spring Insight were all produced by candidates who started preparation before the application window opened.

The timeline

June to August (before first year of university)

This is the ideal preparation window. Most candidates do not start here because they do not know the spring week pipeline exists. Families who engage ECS during this window have the longest runway and the highest conversion probability.

What to do:

Engage ECS for a diagnostic call if targeting bulge bracket investment banking
Begin Commercial Fluency foundation (structured commercial awareness building)
Research target firms and divisions
Attend any virtual pre-university insight days offered by the firms

September (applications open)

The first wave of spring week applications opens in September. Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan, Barclays, and Citi typically open their spring week applications within the first three weeks of September.

What to do:

Submit applications within the first week of opening (early applicants have a statistical advantage at most firms)
STAR-3 framework applied to every written competency answer
Commercial Fluency applied to every "why this firm" and "why this division" answer
Multiple applications submitted simultaneously (diversification is critical)

October to November (HireVue and first-round interviews)

Firms begin processing applications in October. HireVue invitations typically arrive two to four weeks after application submission. First-round telephone or video interviews follow for candidates who clear the HireVue.

What to do:

PEAL-3 framework for every HireVue question (pre-rehearsed against the actual rubric and time windows)
Commercial Fluency refreshed weekly to stay current with market developments
Track every application status and follow up on any that go silent after four weeks

November to December (assessment centres)

Spring week assessment centres at Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and other bulge bracket firms typically run in November and December. These are the decisive selection points.

What to do:

VTMR for any case study component
BDC Data Point Theory for any group exercise
PEAL-X if the AC includes a senior banker interview
Mock ACs with ECS at least one week before the real AC

January to February (second-wave applications)

Some firms open a second wave of spring week applications in January. HSBC, Deutsche Bank, and several mid-market firms typically have January deadlines.

What to do:

Apply to any firm not yet applied to
Use feedback from first-wave ACs to refine the approach
Maintain Commercial Fluency at weekly cadence

March to April (spring weeks take place)

Spring weeks themselves run during the Easter vacation or spring term break, typically one week in duration.

What to do:

Prepare for the spring week itself (networking strategy, how to convert the week into a summer internship offer)
ECS provides a pre-spring-week briefing covering how to maximise the week

May to June (summer internship offers)

Firms typically extend summer internship offers to spring week attendees within four to six weeks of the spring week ending. Some firms make offers on the final day of the spring week.

What to do:

If an offer arrives: ECS Offer-Engineering System for negotiation and acceptance strategy
If no offer: debrief, identify gaps, prepare for the direct summer internship application cycle (opens September of second year)

The key insight

The candidates who secure spring week offers at Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Blackstone are the candidates who start preparation before September. The application window is short (September to January). The preparation window is long (June to January). The candidates who compress all their preparation into the application window produce weaker applications than the candidates who build their commercial awareness, competency answers, and firm-specific knowledge over the summer.

This is why ECS recommends that families with children entering their first year of university engage for a diagnostic call in June or July, not September.

How to start

Apply at https://www.accessecs.com/start. The diagnostic is a private forty-five-minute conversation. A parent must be present when the candidate is under twenty-two.

Frequently asked

When should my child start preparing for spring week?

June or July before the first year of university is ideal. September (when applications open) is the latest start that still allows full preparation. January is too late for the firms that matter most.

Which spring weeks are the most competitive?

Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and JPMorgan spring weeks in London are the most competitive by application volume. Blackstone Spring Insight is the most competitive by acceptance rate. ECS has documented outcomes at all four.

Can a second-year student apply for spring week?

Most spring week programmes are designed for first-year students. Some firms accept second-year applicants, but the primary pipeline is first-year. If your child is in their second year, the summer internship application (opening September of second year) is the primary target.

How do I apply to ECS?

Apply at https://www.accessecs.com/start. ECS works with thirty private clients per year. A parent must be present on the diagnostic call.
