The ECS method is ECS's name for its framework suite and working approach. It is not a promise of offers. This is what the method covers, how the frameworks fit together, and where the evidence stands.
The Definition
The ECS method is Elite Careers Strategy's framework suite and the way the frameworks are applied: a structured sequence of preparation for each stage of selection at elite corporate law firms and investment banks in London and New York. A name is not evidence that a method works; the evidence is the documented outcome record set out below.
The name should not be read literally. ECS does not produce offers. Employers make hiring decisions, on criteria they only partly publish. What ECS does is help candidates prepare: diagnosing where an application is weak, building written answers and interview material with the frameworks, and rehearsing each stage.
The frameworks were developed by Hassan Akram, founder of ECS. Across recruitment work and ECS advisory, Hassan Akram has reviewed more than 10,000 applications and related candidate materials. That is a practitioner's working corpus, not a dataset, and the frameworks reflect his observation of recurring strengths and weaknesses within it.
Why the word "engineering"
The word describes how ECS works, not what employers do. Preparation is broken into components, each with its own framework, and each component is built, tested in rehearsal and revised. That is the sense of engineering in the name: structure and iteration applied to a candidate's own material.
Employers do not use ECS vocabulary or score against ECS frameworks, and ECS has no access to any firm's internal scoring criteria. Where a firm publishes its selection criteria, ECS prepares candidates against them. Where it does not, ECS relies on its own observation of applications and interviews, and says so.
The frameworks in the suite
The suite is not a single method. It comprises six proprietary frameworks and a post-offer stage, each addressing a specific stage of selection:
1. STAR-3 (written application stage): extends the conventional Situation-Task-Action-Result structure with three further layers: the decision-making process, the quantified impact and the transferable insight. Designed to help candidates develop several dimensions of an example rather than one undifferentiated account of what happened, for any firm that uses competency-based written questions.
2. PEAL-3 (competency interview stage): structures interview answers across Point, Evidence, Action and Learning, with three layers of depth. Designed to help candidates give structured, evidenced answers in first-round and video interviews.
3. PEAL-X (partner/MD interview stage): extends PEAL-3 with a layer for follow-up questioning, for senior partner and managing director interviews in which the interviewer probes beyond a prepared answer.
4. VTMR (assessment centre case study): structures the candidate's approach across Vision, Triage, Modelling and Recommendation. Designed for the written and oral case exercises common in banking, private equity, consulting and law firm assessment centres.
5. BDC Data Point Theory (group exercise): teaches the candidate how to introduce structured data into a group discussion under time pressure. ECS's observation is that a well-timed data point often does more for a candidate than dominating the conversation.
6. Commercial Fluency (commercial awareness round): builds a structured commercial knowledge base: division-specific, deal-specific and market-specific, rather than generic "read the FT" advice.
7. Post-offer planning: covers acceptance timing, competing offers and preparation for the first months at the firm.
The four-step process
A private ECS engagement follows four steps:
1. Diagnostic. Private profile assessment against the target firms' published requirements and ECS's experience of their processes.
2. System Build. Applying the framework suite to the candidate's specific targets.
3. Execution. Written applications, interview rehearsal and assessment centre preparation.
4. Offer stage. Support with decisions once offers or final-round results arrive.
Hassan Akram leads every engagement personally. ECS keeps its private-client capacity deliberately limited.
The evidence
ECS's record stands at 106 documented outcomes and selection progressions across 53 candidate journeys. Outcomes include offers, internships and insight programmes; progressions include assessment centre and superday invitations, which are not offers. The firms include Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Blackstone, Citadel, White & Case, Kirkland & Ellis, Clifford Chance, Freshfields and Slaughter and May. Some candidates worked with ECS privately; others used only ECS's free published frameworks, and each case study states which. Most clients remain anonymous. Evidence is held on file.

Frequently asked
Does the ECS method guarantee an offer?
No. It is the name of ECS's framework suite and method. Employers make their own decisions, and ECS does not offer guarantees. What the method offers is structured preparation for each stage of selection.
Is it suitable for a non-target university candidate?
Yes. Much of ECS's work is with candidates whose university is not on a firm's core recruiting list. The documented record includes outcomes for students at Exeter, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Westminster and Queen Mary, among others.
How do I work with ECS?
Apply for a diagnostic call at https://www.accessecs.com/start. The diagnostic is the entry point to every ECS engagement. Led personally by Hassan Akram. A parent must be present when the candidate is under twenty-two.
